Why You Should Regularly Maintain Your HVAC System

September 17, 2021

Introduction

Having regular maintenance performed on your HVAC system is one of the most important tasks for any homeowner.  We understand that it can go overlooked because it's one of those things that most people don’t notice until there is a problem.  We are going to share with you some reasons you shouldn’t overlook having regular maintenance performed on your HVAC system in hopes of helping you before it's too late.  Lets start off with something that everyone wants to do:

It Saves You Money

Everybody loves saving money.  We all have something in mind (dream vacation, dream house, dream car, or maybe just retirement) that we are saving for.  Performing regular maintenance on your HVAC system can help keep money in your pockets to make those dreams you are saving for a reality.  Lets look at some numbers:

  • According to the US Department of energy, HVAC systems running at near peak efficiency can save as much as 30% on monthly power bills.
  • Regular maintenance on your HVAC system can reduce the risk of system breakdowns by more than 90%.

That’s a lot of money to be saved you can put towards other things!  Another thing to keep in mind is that most HVAC system manufacturers require proof of regular maintenance to keep the warranty on the unit active.  Just like with any other piece of equipment that requires regular maintenance, the components that make up your HVAC system can be very expensive.  Why throw money away that you don’t have to?

It Helps Keep Your Indoor Temperature Levels Comfortable

Not only can keeping your HVAC system running at near peak efficiency save you money, it also helps keep your indoor temperature levels at your desired comfort levels.  The ideal function of your HVAC system is to keep your home heated and cooled evenly throughout every room.  Performing regular maintenance on your HVAC system aids in making sure that your system is able to heat and cool the air in your home more evenly across all areas of the house.

It Provides a Peace of Mind

We all like the feeling knowing that we can leave our home for the day to go to work or for even longer to go on vacation and be able to return home to find everything just as we left it.  Neglecting maintenance on your HVAC system can prevent that from happening.  Nobody wants to go to work on a hot summers day and return home to find the temperature in their home to be almost the same as it is outside when all they want to do is relax.  Or even worse, return from summer vacation and find the house hasn’t been cooled all week!  Same could be said for returning home in the winter with no heat to warm the house.  The last thing anyone wants to do when they are trying to relax in the comfort of their own home is be miserable due to the improper temperature in the home and stuck waiting on an appointment for someone to come repair your HVAC system.  Also, performing regular maintenance provides the peace of mind knowing that if the system components are still under warranty, the repair won’t cost you anything out of pocket.

BONUS – Easy HVAC Maintenance You Can Do Yourself

One of the easiest and least inexpensive HVAC Maintenance items that you can do yourself is investing in and using a coil cleaner to clean and degrease your HVAC condenser and evaporator coils.  This will help prevent corrosion and help to maintain your HVAC systems efficiency.  Most coil cleaners can be picked up very inexpensively and some can be even be used to clean other heavily soiled surfaces around your home making this a great self-service investment.  By no means should this be used to replace the recommended yearly maintenance by a professional, but it does make a great compliment to your regularly scheduled maintenance.
